Pfizer Global Research and Development

Today's students are tomorrow's leaders in the sciences. To this end, PGRD understands the critical importance of preparing students like you for careers in the biomedical & pharmaceutical industry. Through various Student Employment Programs, PGRD offers you incredible opportunities to fine-tune your research skills while adding invaluably to your studies. These programs are designed to help you develop and apply your skills and knowledge to prepare for a successful career in biomedical sciences.

PGRD Student Employment Requirements: The goal of these programs are for students to experience working in a biomedical company setting, to understand the vital role of research in the drug development process, and perhaps become interested in a career as a researcher.

To qualify for these positions you must be enrolled as a full time undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program related to our primary research efforts (science, business, computer science, etc); maintain a solid academic standing (3.0 GPA or above) and be authorized to be lawfully employed in the U.S.

Pfizer Finance

Our goal is to identify and to attract the top graduate school business students to Pfizer Finance. Our 12-15 Summer Associates complete challenging assignments in areas such as:

Examples:

  • Project involved working the operating division plant-wide audit in Switzerland and an Accounts Receivable/Creditors audit in New York City.
  • Project focused on the collection and interpretation of investment returns for various domestic and international asset classes. This project utilized a parametric linear programming model to determine optimal asset allocation under hypothetical investment strategies.
  • Project involved working to complete the transfer pricing studies for an operating division.

Pfizer Global Manufacturing

Pfizer's Global Manufacturing Division, which is responsible for the manufacture of all Pfizer products, offers summer internships at its manufacturing sites and world headquarters office. Interns have an opportunity to work on challenging projects, learn about the pharmaceutical industry and apply their skills in a world-class manufacturing organization.

Previous assignments have been in New Product Planning, Production Process Inventory Control, Aseptic Manufacturing, Project Engineering, Packaging, Product and Process Development and Environmental Health and Safety.

We have hired undergraduate students majoring in areas such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering and Industry Pharmacy.

Worldwide Pharmaceutical Operations Finance

Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Finance comprises six areas: Disease Management Finance, Sales Finance, Headquarters Finance, Medical Finance, the Contracts Group and the Trade Group. We partner with each operating department within the Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals to provide financial support for their initiatives, while managing the overall financial performance of Pfizer's pharmaceutical business.

Responsibilities

Summer interns will work in one or more of the six areas of the group on real problems and challenges facing Pfizer. Past interns have worked on projects such as co-promotion profit split models, impact of proposed Medicaid legislation, sales force expansion, equipment financing and lease/buy options, product performance and return on investment of various promotional activities.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess strong financial, analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Worldwide Pharmaceutical Operations Marketing

A vital part of the Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Marketing department is responsible for successfully positioning its product portfolio in the highly competitive pharmaceutical marketplace. Marketers initiate rigorous market and product-specific research prior to launch of a new product to determine how to optimally position the product in the market. After launch, product positioning is continually redirected in order to maximize product advantages and capitalize on market opportunities.

Responsibilities

 Summer Associates are integrated into a marketing team and are responsible for project-type assignments in one or several of the following areas relating to the pharmaceutical industry, product management or disease management:

  • Marketing Communications
  • Market Research
  • Direct-to-Consumer

Qualifications

Candidate for an MBA with emphasis in Marketing and Strategy. Previous consulting, pharmaceutical or health care experience is desirable. Other key qualities for success in these positions include:

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and problem solve
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Results-oriented with willingness to take responsibility and initiative

Worldwide Pharmaceutical Operations Market Research

Pfizer Pharmaceutical's Market Analytics department operates as an internal consulting group to the various pharmaceutical marketing and other teams, conducting research and analyses to develop and enhance marketing strategies and identifying appropriate metrics to measure the success of critical programs. We are an innovative team of creative individuals with strong consulting and analytical skills. We are seeking talented individuals who can apply thought leadership and strong management skills towards solving business problems and gaining a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities

Interns are assigned to work with the market research manager on a specific marketing team (based in New York) and will assist the research manager on a variety of market research activities, within the U.S. or globally. In addition, they will have at least one project that will be their responsibility to complete and present at the end of the internship. Interns will gain experience with both primary and secondary marketing research techniques, and will have the opportunity to help develop, assess and recommend marketing strategies. Typical projects in which interns may be involved include:

  • Developing and evaluating marketing/promotion strategies and tactics in partnership with the marketing team
  • Determining the appropriate positioning of Pfizer products
  • Interpreting therapeutic market and promotional trends
  • Assessing the market potential of products in clinical development
  • Evaluating concepts for new advertising campaigns
  • Exploring trends with key customer types (e.g. health care providers, payors and consumers)

Qualifications

An applicant for this position should be a candidate for an MBA or MS in Marketing, Statistics or another relevant degree, with a strong academic record. Market research experience and pharmaceutical industry experience are desirable but not required. Other key qualities for success in these positions include:

  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively

Summer Law Intern Program

The Legal Division's Summer Law Internship program provides 1Ls and 2Ls a unique opportunity to experience the dynamics of a Fortune 100 corporate law environment. Starting in June and continuing through August, the program exposes interns to a diversity of in-house law practice experiences, including: litigation, anti-trust, pharmaceutical law, animal health law, employment and labor law, regulatory law, patent law, merger and acquisition, etc.

Focusing on Pfizer's commitment to the community, Pfizer law interns also participate in the New York City Fund's Housing Court Summer Assistance Project where they complete one week of pro-bono assignments.

Although Pfizer only hires experienced attorneys for its employment vacancies, the experience acquired by interns provides them with valuable skills that make them competitive in the job market.

In addition to challenging assignments, interns will be exposed to a variety of educational forums designed to broaden their knowledge of corporate law and to develop essential business skills. Interns will also be assigned to an attorney who will act as a mentor, who along with their supervisor and project attorneys will provide valuable feedback and advice throughout the course of the program. Our ultimate goal is to provide interns with a meaningful, intellectually challenging and rewarding experience.
