Marjorie’s Story: Practicing Medicine From the Viewpoint of a Patient
Marjorie is a practicing physician who also has sickle cell disease (SCD), a lifelong and debilitating genetic disorder that affects red blood cells. She wasn’t diagnosed until she was in her 20s, so for years lived with the daily pain caused by the disease without understanding the cause. Now 43, she credits SCD with making her a better physician. Marjorie says she’s a patient 24 hours a day, which helps her better relate to her own patients.
