A new mother faces countless decisions with the arrival of her newborn son or daughter. One of these decisions is how or what she will feed her new baby. Without question breast milk is the best nutrition to provide to a newborn. It provides all the nourishment babies require and natural immunity protection for infants. What's in breast milk that makes it so special? Breast milk is a complex blend of more than 200 unique biologically active substances collectively termed biofactors.
Biofactors are any nutrients or nutritional components that deliver functional benefits and play a positive role in growth, health and development. Although each biofactor is individually important, the unique combination of biofactors is what makes human milk ideal.
Pfizer Nutrition's research efforts always have been directed toward matching the nutritional properties of human milk as closely as possible. Pfizer Biofactors System™ reflects the latest scientific advances and expert recommendations to help ensure children receive the right nutrients in the appropriate amounts to grow and develop.
The products below are some of Pfizer Nutrition's core brands. Not all products are available in each country, so check under Contact Us or consult a health care professional to learn what's available in a particular location. Our infant formulas are available for mothers who cannot breastfeed or decide not to breastfeed.

S-26 LBW (low birth weight) and SMA/S-26 HMF (human milk fortifier) are Pfizer Nutrition specialty products that are often used in hospital settings under medical supervision.
S-26 and S-26 Gold, SMA, Nursoy Gold (soy-based product for infants with allergies or those recovering from diarrhea), S-26 LF Gold (lactose free), and S-26 AR Gold (anti-regurgitation) are some of Pfizer Nutrition's "first year formulas". Professional advice from a healthcare provider on their use should be followed.
"Follow-on formulas" are specially designed to help support growth and development in babies age 6 months and older. They are intended to complement a weaning diet that includes solid food. Promil and Promil Gold are some of Pfizer Nutrition's "follow-on formulas".
Progess and Progress Gold are the brand names of some of Pfizer's "growing up milks" for toddlers 1 to 3 years old, while Promise Gold is for young children 3 to 7 years of age.
Maternal supplements
During pregnancy, requirements for some vitamins and minerals are greater than the requirements for calories.
Daily requirements for some vitamins and minerals increase as much as 50%, whereas energy needs increase by only 300 calories per day in the second and third trimesters. As a result, moms-to-be should choose foods carefully to obtain all the necessary nutrients while maintaining appropriate weight gain. Prenatal supplements are designed to make this task easier by supplying a significant portion of vitamin and mineral requirements.
Pfizer Nutrition manufactures MATERNA, a complete multivitamin/mineral supplement used during pregnancy and lactation, and S-26 MAMA, a balanced nutritional beverage designed to supplement the diet of pregnant and lactating women.
Note: Breast milk is best for babies. Infant formula is intended to replace breast milk when mothers do not breastfeed. Introducing partial bottle-feeding could negatively affect breastfeeding and reversing a decision not to breastfeed is difficult. Infant formula should be prepared and used as directed. Unnecessary or improper use of infant formula may present a health hazard. Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding.
Information regarding infant formula products that are used as the sole source of nutrition during the first 4 to 6 months of life is subject to the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breast-Milk Substitutes.
