Pfizer Global Research & Development has four major locations across the United States and England. While Pfizer colleagues at each center employ unique technologies to focus on site-specific functions and therapeutic areas, together they comprise an integrated global network of discovery and development. Pfizer Research at La Jolla, San Diego, California

Site Statistics:

Pfizer Research at Groton, Connecticut

Site Statistics:

  • 160-acre site with 2.7-million-square-feet of state-of-the-art facility space at Groton — the largest pharmaceutical research facility of its kind in the world.
  • Groton is an integrated co-generation facility capable of supplying 100% of the site's annual energy requirements featuring renewable and green technologies such as photo-voltaic cells, on-site electric car charging stations, micro-turbines, and a low-emission gas turbine
  • The Groton site features over 250,000 square feet of ergonomically designed "Flexible Office" space capable of accommodating the needs of a mobile or fixed work force. The space is easily configurable and offers colleagues the opportunity to participate in a dynamic workspace to the degree of their liking as well as providing access to different types of space for specific needs such as video conferencing, teleconferencing, telepresence, and team meeting rooms.
  • The Clinical Research Unit (CRU), in New Haven, is a state-of-the-art research facility which provides comprehensive care in clinical studies. The CRU's cutting edge technology includes a biomarker laboratory and a research pharmacy.

Pfizer Research at Andover, Massachusetts

Site Statistics:

  • 70-acre site that combines state-of-the-art R&D facilities with flexible, multi-product manufacturing capabilities. Andover is strategically positioned as a fully integrated site, serving as a vital cog in both Pfizer's WRD and Pfizer Global Supply network
  • In 2007, Andover became the first biotechnology facility in New England to receive OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification for its work in building a culture of safety

The Andover campus consists of eight buildings which house laboratories, clinical and commercial manufacturing suites, purification and support areas. The manufacturing areas produce Coagulation Factor IX (Recombinant) and bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP), which stimulates bone growth and is marketed in a drug-device combination known as Infuse.

Andover is the global production facility for polysaccharides, a component of Pneumococcal 13-valent Conjugate Vaccine (Diptheria CRM197 Protein), the company's vaccine for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease in infants and young children. Andover's Building B is approved as a multiproduct facility, allowing clinical and commercial products to be manufactured simultaneously.

Pfizer Research at Cambridge, UK

Pfizer Neusentis Unit: Neusentis, part of Pfizer Limited, consolidates Pfizer's Pain & Sensory Disorders and Regenerative Medicine units into a new biotech like unit in Cambridge, UK. Over the past few years Pfizer has built world leading expertise in the field of ion channels. Neusentis scientists focus this expertise on delivering new medicines across all forms of pain influenced by this mechanism. Additionally, they explore opportunities across sensory disorders in which there is a strong mechanistic relationship to ion channels, such as auditory and visual disorders. With a number of potential medicines in the clinic the unit's colleagues are working hard to provide new therapies and treatment options for patients in pain.
 

Pharmaceutical Sciences, Devices Centre of Emphasis (DCoE): Pfizer's Device Centre of Excellence (DCoE) specialises in the design and development of drug delivery devices, such as injectors or inhalers. The DCoE group based at Cambridge, UK is responsible for the design of new devices, along with the testing and industrialisation. DCoE both develops internally and works with a wide array of external partners to achieve the optimum device design for Pfizer's drug delivery needs.
