Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative: Kenya

Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative is a five-year, three-country initiative that engages and educates treatment providers and patients to improve prompt and effective treatment for malaria in Senegal, Ghana and Kenya. In Kenya, over 1600 staff, working with pregnant women and young children, are trained to advise women on prevention and treatment of malaria in Nyanza and western provinces. Learn more

Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative: Ghana

Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative is a five-year, three-country initiative that engages and educates treatment providers and patients to improve prompt and effective treatment for malaria in Senegal, Ghana and Kenya. In the Ashanti Region of Ghana, over 1200 Licensed Chemical Sellers (LCS) trained to correctly dose and administer artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), and to recognize and refer complicated malaria cases to the nearest health facility. Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative: Senegal

Pfizer's Mobilize Against Malaria Initiative is a five-year, three-country initiative that engages and educates treatment providers and patients to improve prompt and effective treatment for malaria in Senegal, Ghana and Kenya. In Tambacounda, Senegal, community health workers were trained in malaria diagnosis and treatment at 24 health huts. All health huts were also equipped with furniture, basic medical and surgical instruments, health management tools, artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACT) and notice boards. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Morocco

In 2006, after receiving Pfizer-donated Zithromax® for six years and implementing the full SAFE strategy in endemic districts, Morocco achieved its ultimate intervention goals and is working toward WHO certification of elimination of blinding trachoma. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Ethiopia

The Amhara Regional Health Bureau, with support from the International Trachoma Initiative, the Carter Center and Lions Clubs, has distributed Zithromax® to more than 14.7 million people since 2008. More than 4 million doses were distributed in other parts of Ethiopia. Learn more

Pfizer's partners are working in the Rift Valley region, bordering Southern Sudan and Uganda, and targeting a trachoma elimination date of 2015. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Uganda

Since 2007, more than 2.9 million doses of Zithromax® have been distributed in 11 districts as part of the SAFE strategy recommended by the World Health Organization. The SAFE strategy uses Surgery, Antibiotics (using dontated Zithromax®), Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement to combat and prevent the disease. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Zambia

The International Trachoma Initiative Technical Expert Committee has approved the Zithromax® donation in Zambia, which may have more than 72 endemic districts. The country is now undertaking prevalence studies and supply chain improvements to begin trachoma elimination work. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Vietnam

Vietnam no longer requires mass dosing of Zithromax®. However, international partners are working to clear a backlog of trichiasis surgeries before seeking certification of trachoma elimination. Trichiasis surgery reverses an advanced stage of trachoma in which the eyelashes turn inward and scrap the cornea, causing blindness. Learn more

Pfizer's partnership to end blinding trachoma: Nepal

In partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and RTI Internaional, the International Trachoma Initiative has been working with the government of Nepal since 2002. Nepal has made solid progress toward trachoma elimination and is now working to scale-up the SAFE strategy. Nepal plans to reach a target elimination date of 2015. Learn more

Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: New York

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million to promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations working towards bold advancements in the fight against cancer. Through GHP, the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention in New York City has expanded its patient navigation model to five additional underserved locations across the US and, to date, they have navigated more than 4,500 patients through their cancer care and treatments. Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: Mexico

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million to promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations working towards bold advancements in the fight against cancer. The Mexico Council Against Tobacco has embarked on a sweeping tobacco-control initiative helping raise awareness among policy-makers and opinion leaders as to the importance of smoke-free environments. In May 2009, the General Tobacco Control Law was enacted at the national level. Learn more

Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: Brazil

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million to promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations working to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer. The Alliance for the Control of Tobacco Use mobilizes the Brazilian community and media through public opinion polls and public demonstrations. Their efforts contributed to the April 2009 approval of a 100 percent smoke-free law in Sáo Paulo State; and in August 2009, Rio de Janeiro State approved its smoke-free law. Learn more

Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: Turkey

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million to promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations working to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer. In Turkey, Pfizer is supporting The New Hope in Health Foundation (SUVAK) to improve capacity to maintain high quality cancer registry data and to use this information to rally the nation's advocacy groups and the Turkish Thoracic Society that aims to build infrastructure that trains healthcare providers, establishes smoking cessation support centers and educates the general smoking population on smoking cessation options. Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: China

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million over four years in the growth of 31 promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations united by the shared mission of accelerating the pace of progress in the fight against cancer. In China, Pfizer is combating both cancer and tobacco by supporting the Cancer Foundation of China, the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention (SCDC) and the China Association on Tobacco Control (CATC). The Cancer Foundation of China is building cancer-control capacity and improving cancer-control education for healthcare professionals with a special emphasis on rural areas. The SCDC is improving screening, diagnosis, and referral rates in order to reduce late-stage diagnoses in breast, colorectal, and other common cancers. CATC is converting 60 hospitals to smoke-free status and educating healthcare providers, patients, and family members about the dangers of tobacco. CATC's success has led to the Chinese government's announcement of "Decisions on Smoking Ban Throughout Medical and Healthcare Sector of the Country Starting from 2011" to ban smoking in medical institutions by the end of 2011. Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: Japan

Across Asia, Pfizer is addressing both tobacco and cancer control through Global Health Partnerships. The Health Partnerships Institute of Japan is identifying regional disparities in cancer and tobacco control and instituting training and advocacy to address them. Akebono-kai has launched public education and screening campaigns across Tokyo to double the screening rate among women over 40. The Japan Medical Dental Association initiated the Japan Smoking Cessation Training Outreach Project (J-STOP) to coordinate efforts with other associations to train at least 1,000 healthcare providers on best practices in smoking cessation. The American Cancer Society Asia program is providing technical assistance for 11 promising grassroots initiatives in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand to improve access to and utilization of cancer control services, and to build capacity for early detection and patient support. Pfizer's Global Health Partnership Program: Asia

Through Global Health Partnerships (GHP), Pfizer is investing $47 million to promising cancer- and tobacco-control organizations working towards bold advancements in the fight against cancer. In Asia, through improved capacity to deliver early detection programs and advocacy strategies, the American Cancer Society is supporting 14 cancer organizations from Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore in providing screenings for more than 7,000 individuals and educating 52,000+ individuals about cancer early detection. Pfizer's Connect HIV Program: Texas

The Pfizer Foundation funded efforts in communities disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS in 10 states in the U.S. with high incidence of HIV/AIDS. The St. Hope Foundation in Houston developed new tools to help men and women develop the skills they need to use condoms consistently and focused on high-risk African-American and Latino populations. The program served 270 high-risk individuals, reducing their risk behavior and linking 100% of those in need with additional care. Learn more

Pfizer's Connect HIV Program: North Carolina

With ConnectHIV support, the American Cancer Society developed "Positive Choices," a Comprehensive Risk Counseling and Services (CRCS) program, to improve the quality of life, reduce disease progression, improve disease outcomes, and limit further HIV exposure and transmission among their community's most vulnerable members in North Carolina. Infectious Diseases Institute: Uganda

In partnership with Makerere University, the Academic Alliance and Accordia Global Health Foundation, the Ugandan Ministry of Health and Mulago Hospital and Pfizer, the Infectious Diseases Institute was established in 2004 as a Center of Excellence for prevention, treatment, training and research in Uganda that strengthens regional capacity in HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. Over five years (2004 – 2008), Pfizer Helpful Answers has helped over 5.1 million patients in the U.S. receive over 51 million Pfizer prescriptions, the equivalent of $4.8 billion worth of free medicines and savings. Learn more

In July 2010, Pfizer provided $30,000 in financial assistance to the Mexican Red Cross in response to "Hurricane Alex."

Pfizer's Disaster Relief: Latin America

In 2010 Pfizer provided over $5 million in cash and product contribution to assist the people of Haiti affected by the January 2010 earthquake. Pfizer also provided $100,000 to the Chilean Red Cross in response to the April 2010 earthquake in Chile. In January 2011 Pfizer provided $30,000 to support flooding victims in Colombia and Venezuela.

Pfizer's Disaster Relief: China

Pfizer provided $700,000 in financial assistance to provide relief after the April 2010 earthquake in the Qinghai province.

Pfizer's Disaster Relief: Pakistan

In August 2010 Pfizer provided $85,000 in financial assistance to UNICEF and other organizations for flood relief.

Pfizer's Disaster Relief: United States

Following the April and May 2011 storms in the Southeastern and Midwestern parts of the United States, Pfizer provided $150,000 in financial assistance to six nonprofit organizations.

Pfizer's Disaster Relief: Japan

Following the February 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Pfizer donated $7.57 million to disaster relief efforts, including $3.26 million in medicines distributed to affected areas.
