Our Partners: Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pfizer entered into a worldwide collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) to develop and commercialize the oral factor Xa inhibitor APIXABAN—a new class of agents that have shown therapeutic potential to prevent and treat thrombosis (blood clots). Pfizer and BMS are jointly conducting the clinical development work and forming the marketing strategy for APIXABAN. We will also share commercialization expenses and profits/losses equally on a global basis. The deal combines BMS' long-standing strengths in cardiovascular drug development and commercialization with Pfizer's global scale, expertise in cardiovascular disease, and large primary care field force.
With patient need firmly in mind, our alliance team is moving with a clear sense of urgency to advance APIXABAN's development program. All of our interactions with Pfizer, from the working group level through to the executive level, have been productive. BMS is very impressed with the talent and expertise of the Pfizer team, as well as the collaborative attitude Pfizer has instilled in the alliance. We are clearly on the right path to success.![]()
