Global EHS Partnerships
Pfizer partners with organizations around the world to advance environment, health and safety practices in our communities.
Our partners include:
Business Roundtable (BRT) S.E.E. Change and Climate RESOLVE: An association of the chief executive officers of leading US companies with which Pfizer has a long-standing relationship. Pfizer is participating in the following BRT initiatives to advance industry engagement on environmental and sustainability issues:
- Climate RESOLVE (Responsible Environmental Steps, Opportunities to Lead by Voluntary Efforts) commits to have every company in every sector of the economy undertake voluntary actions to control greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reduce the GHG intensity of the US economy. Pfizer was among the first companies to join the Climate RESOLVE initiative and our GHG and clean energy goals are more ambitious than those set by BRT.
- S.E.E. (Social. Environmental. Economic.) Change seeks to promote better business and a better world by encouraging Roundtable members to adopt sustainability principles as a business planning tool and showcase the results achieved.
Business Social Responsibility (BSR): A nonprofit organization committed to promoting cross-sector collaboration to contribute to global efforts to advance the field of corporate social responsibility. Since 2000 Pfizer has partnered with BSR to enhance our EHS activities and gain critical insight on environmental sustainability.
Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS): A non-profit, corporate membership organization within the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) that identifies and addresses process safety needs within the chemical, pharmaceutical and petroleum industries. CCPS brings together manufacturers, government agencies, consultants, academia and insurers to lead the way in improving industrial process safety, define and develop useful guidelines. As a CCPS member, Pfizer is committed to protecting employees, communities and the environment by developing engineering and management practices to prevent or minimize catastrophic releases of chemicals, hydrocarbons and other hazardous materials.
Climate Leaders: A voluntary USEPA industry-government partnership that encourages companies to develop long-term, comprehensive climate change strategies. As a member since 2002, Pfizer has had the opportunity to engage with external stakeholders to openly discuss and explore practical solutions to the climate change issue.
Environmental Law Institute (ELI): An independent, non-profit center conducting policy studies on the environment and sustainability. ELI reaches out to the EHS community through educational programs, publications and technical assistance. Pfizer has been a member of ELI since the 1980s.
Nature Conservancy: An organization dedicated to preserving plants, animals and natural habitats that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. It pursues pragmatic, market-based solutions to conservation challenges through partnerships with businesses, government agencies, multilateral institutions, individuals and other non-profit organizations. As a member of the Nature Conservancy's International Leadership Council, we benefit from their expertise in helping us better understand sustainable land management and increasing our ability to foster sustainability in communities where we operate around the world.
Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI): An initiative resulting from the efforts by major pharmaceutical companies to improve economic, social, and environmental outcomes for all those involved in the pharmaceutical supply chain, particularly in the developing world. Pfizer was instrumental in the development of the initiative and the performance expectations embodied in the Pharmaceutical Industry Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management best practices regarding ethics, labor, health and safety, environment, and related management systems.

United Nations Global Compact (UNGC): A UN-sponsored network for promoting good corporate citizenship. The ten principles of the Compact encourage the alignment of corporate policies and practices with internationally accepted values and objectives in the areas of human rights, labor standards and the environment. Pfizer signed the UN Global Compact in October 2002, becoming the first U.S. pharmaceutical business and the first top ten New York Stock Exchange companies to do so. Signing the Compact affirms our long-standing commitment to corporate responsibility, environmental stewardship and good governance.
In May 2007, Pfizer signed "Caring for Climate: The Business Leadership Platform" to advance climate change solutions. The Platform requires companies to take steps to increase efficiency of energy usage, set targets for greenhouse gas reduction, report on achievements, and engage with the external world in supporting efforts to mitigate climate change.
