Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company: The World's Largest Pharmaceutical Company

Pfizer Health and Safety

We:

  • Expanded our illness and injury data scope in 2007 by an additional 8% to include colleagues from additional offices and those contractors under direct supervision of a Pfizer employee.
  • Reduced our lost time injury and illness rate by 7% from 2004 through 2007.
  • Achieved a 24% reduction in 2007 from 2004 in our total injury and illness rate.

Both metrics indicate we are above their respective pharmaceutical industry standard — we recognize we need to do better. At the start of 2008, Pfizer set aggressive internal targets and goals to significantly improve safety performance throughout the Company, including our fleet. Our sales and marketing fleet accounts for 32,000 vehicles (equates to 800 million miles year). Motor vehicle accidents are the highest injury rate and represent the greatest risk operation for Pfizer colleagues.

Areas we are focusing on to improve our global safety performance include: efforts to achieve a better understanding of the root cause of incidents, continuous improvement initiatives at the facility level, stepped-up colleague training, and implementation of a worldwide driver safety program.
