Rebecca Ann EisanOncology Therapeutic SpecialistBase/Location:Halifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaNGO Partner:Project HOPEAssignment Location:Shanghai, ChinaDuration:July - September 2014Fellowship Title:Entrepreneurship Fellow
Rebecca has worked for Pfizer since 2001 and has held numerous positions in Primary Care, Specialty Care and presently in Oncology Business Unit. Her responsibilities include interacting with medical oncologists and multidisciplinary teams to promote the Oncology portfolio for the Atlantic Canada provinces. She is a resource for the health care providers who provide treatment and support for oncology patients.
The elderly population in China is increasing rapidly. The number of people that are older than 60 years of age will increase from 165 million in 2010 to 440 million by 2050 and this age group will account for 34% of the total population in China. To strengthen the professional education in providing for elderly care, Shanghai SanDa University established the Senior Health Research Institute (SHRI) in December 2012. In 2014-2015, Project Hope Shanghai office will be working with Fellows to support the SHRI’s care programming. Rebecca will work with local staff to develop a non communicable disease prevention program, promoting healthy aging to older populations within China.
Rebecca is confident that her nursing background in oncology, hematology and bone marrow transplantation along with her Pfizer work experience, will provide insights and skills to Project HOPE to best utilize her time with them. This experience will help her fulfill a personal goal of volunteering on a global level.
During her fellowship, Rebecca hopes to gain insight, learning how to do more with less. She would like to bring what she’s learned home to Pfizer along with an understanding of the challenges faced by nongovernmental organizations and how they fit within the health care system.
Rebecca is actively involved in volunteer work with Big Brothers Big Sisters, homeless shelters and her local community.
Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) is dedicated to provide lasting, sustainable solutions to health problems around the world, working in partnership with people and communities, giving them the opportunity and the means to help themselves.
