Principal Research Scientist I Bio
Base/Location: Pearl River, New York
NGO Partner: Project HOPE
Assignment Location: New Delhi, India
Duration: May 2012 – October 2012
Fellowship Title: Prevention Fellow
Susan has worked at Pfizer since 1988 as a research scientist in the vaccine division. Her career began as a molecular biologist in search for new vaccines and transformed over time to working with clinical samples in the clinical assay group. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to improving health and has pursued a Masters in International Public Health.
From 2012 to 2013, Project HOPE India is focused on diabetes prevention and care. In India, where diabetes prevalence rates are growing rapidly, there is great need to improve the flow of information about the disease. Pfizer Global Health Fellows will work with Project HOPE to design and implement training and outreach materials designed to improve care, treatment and lifestyle behaviors associated with the disease.
As a Fellow, Susan will have the opportunity to learn how nongovernmental organizations deliver preventative health care messages in India. She hopes to return to her position better prepared to work in resource-challenged areas, with improved communication skills and an understanding of the importance of different cultures when implementing new health programs.
Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) is dedicated to provide lasting, sustainable solutions to health problems around the world, working in partnership with people and communities, giving them the opportunity and the means to help themselves.
