Juan Carlos has worked for Pfizer since April 2001 as a Therapeutic Specialty Representative in the areas of pain, cardiovascular, and women's healthcare. During that time he has been responsible for sales and promotion of Pfizer products in institutions and with healthcare providers. For the past seven years he has volunteered with and served with Medical Students in Action, a nonprofit organization serving those in need in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. Juan Carlos has also volunteered with the Knights of Malta, and Mission Manos Hermanas.
From 2012 to 2013, Project HOPE India is focused on diabetes prevention and care. In India, where diabetes prevalence rates are growing rapidly, there is great need to improve the flow of information about the disease to patients. Pfizer Global Health Fellows will work with Project HOPE to design and implement training and outreach materials designed to improve care, treatment and lifestyle behaviors associated with the disease. From his Fellowship experience, Juan Carlos hopes to learn how emerging markets are addressing new challenges such as diabetes and how educational programs can help those in need.
Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) is dedicated to provide lasting, sustainable solutions to health problems around the world, working in partnership with people and communities, giving them the opportunity and the means to help themselves.
