Karine has worked for Pfizer since 2000 and her current responsibilities include quality oversight for clinical programs in the Primary Care Business unit, specializing in risk assessments, compliance issue management and identification of quality improvement opportunities for the Cardiovascular/Metabolic Disease areas. This role includes assessing adherence to Good Clinical Practice and Pharmacovigilance regulations. Prior to this, Karine worked in various clinical operations roles, including as supplies coordinator, research associate and study manager. Karine is proficient in French and Spanish and holds a Masters of Science and a Masters of Business Administration.
Karine's fellowship will be with PharmAccess. PharmAccess works with small private pharmacies and health care facilities to improve their business operations and ensure they are equipped to provide quality medicines to patients in need. The 2012 Fellows supported efforts to address supply chain challenges such as disruptions and stock-outs and trained providers on quality control practices and standards. The 2013 Global Health Fellows will fine-tune and test of the quality standards that were developed by the 2012 Fellows. In addition, one fellowship will focus on testing the quality standards, training the project staff on assessing pharmacies using the standards and developing and testing a self-evaluation tool for remote monitoring of self-assessed quality.
As a result of her service, Karine hopes to gain an increased awareness of health care system challenges in developing countries and to contribute to the implementation of quality standards/controls. She hopes to return with a greater understanding of developing world realities and enhanced leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
PharmAccess Foundation is a fast growing international organization aiming to improve access to affordable quality basic health care in low-income countries in Africa at the bottom of the pyramid.
