Vidya joined Pfizer in 2002. During her tenure at Pfizer, she has led cross-functional drug product and technology development teams, both within Pfizer and in collaboration with external strategic alliance partners. Her current responsibilities include drug delivery technology assessment, evaluation of product enhancement opportunities for life cycle management of assets, outsourcing, and serving on technical due diligence teams for evaluating in-licensing targets.
On her assignment with Health Volunteers Overseas, Vidya will be working with the Department of Pharmacy, School of Health Sciences, Makerere University to identify and set up collaborative partnerships with NGOs and universities in the U.S., aimed at faculty and student development through improved access to current information, educational materials and training. Additionally, Vidya will be teaching industrial pharmacy and pharmaceutics courses at the Department, and working to strengthen its partnership with the clinical pharmacy department at the affiliated Mulago Hospital for improving the quality of services delivered to patients.
Through the Fellowship Vidya expects to gain an understanding of the challenges in delivering medicines to patients in the developing world; she believes that this experience will broaden her perspective and inform her work in developing drug products for developing markets.
Health Volunteers Overseas is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the availability and quality of health care in developing countries through the training and education of local health care providers.
