External Partnerships & Local Market Alliances Manager

The Manager, External Partnerships & Local Market Alliances is responsible for leading the company’s growth and profitability through strategic partnerships, alliances, and the effective management of sales intermediaries. This managerial role oversees commercial strategy, product lifecycle, business development, and compliance, ensuring alignment with both local and regional objectives. The Manager will supervise a team and drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Opportunity Identification
Lead a team to define and execute business development strategies aligned with long-term company goals.
Oversee market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling to assess licensing opportunities and partnerships.
Guide cross-functional teams (legal, regulatory, finance, commercial) in evaluating potential deals.
Supervise due diligence on partners, ensuring scientific validity, commercial viability, reputational risk, and compliance.
Deal Sourcing, Negotiation & Contract Management
Direct and mentor team members in negotiations for in-licensing and out-licensing agreements.
Seek approval for deal structures that align with financial goals and strategic vision.
Oversee the drafting, review, and finalization of contracts in collaboration with legal and other stakeholders.
Ensure post-deal follow-ups are executed and compliant.
Partnership & Alliance Management
Manage relationships with current and potential partners, delegating responsibilities as appropriate.
Facilitate effective communication between internal stakeholders and external partners.
Resolve conflicts and maintain productive long-term relationships, coaching team members in relationship management.
Sales Intermediaries Management
Supervise collaboration with LATAM Partner & Alliance Lead to manage sales intermediaries (distributors, wholesalers, agents, representatives).
Oversee analysis and enhancement of SI business models; lead the creation of frameworks for evaluation, selection, monitoring, and consolidation.
Lead SI Governance, including performance evaluation, compliance, and operational monitoring (KPIs, periodic reviews).
Business Development
Set objectives for business development opportunities to establish partnerships for non-core portfolios.
Guide commercial/finance teams in identifying candidate products and developing external networks.
Ensure appropriate approval for regional/global governance, coordinating cross-functional implementation.
Management of In-Market Brands
Direct strategies to maximize profitability and longevity of in-market products.
Oversee analysis of market trends, competitive dynamics, and healthcare policies.
Identify and approve revenue opportunities (pricing, cost-efficiency, geographic expansion).
Cross-functional Collaboration
Lead collaboration with regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, sales, finance, BAI, legal, and compliance teams.
Provide strategic direction based on external opportunities.
Align with enterprise priorities through partnership with LATAM Strategic Partnerships Lead.
Financial & Market Analysis
Oversee financial impact analysis of deals (profit projections, cost analysis, ROI).
Ensure opportunities fit budget constraints and contribute to long-term growth.
Compliance & Risk Management
Promote a culture of integrity and compliance at all organizational levels.
Champion process simplification and compliant behaviors across teams.
Supervise assessment and documentation of FMV for potential deals.
Oversee due diligence on partners (scientific, commercial, reputational, antitrust, labor laws).
Ensure all transactions comply with regulations and internal policies.
Manage risks (IP, contractual, financial exposure).
Challenges
Structure partnerships to meet both company and external partner expectations in a competitive marketplace.
Protect market share against generic competition and market erosion.
Balance short-term revenue needs with long-term growth through business development.
Organizational Relationships
Responsible for country/cluster-level collaboration and team leadership.
Work closely with Country Managers, Commercial, Compliance, Finance, Legal, GSC, BAI, Procurement, Medical teams.
Collaborate with LATAM Partnership & Alliances Leads for governance, onboarding, and partner monitoring.
Key Skills & Competencies
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, pharmacy, finance, economics, or related field required.
MBA or advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Sc.) in a relevant field is advantageous.
Experience
5–10 years of direct commercial experience, including business development or licensing in pharma/biotech.
Experience in deal-making, licensing agreements, acquisitions, strategic alliance is a plus.
Strong commercial background.
Experience in negotiation.
Experience with third-party management, bidding, and contracting processes.
Demonstrated experience in team leadership and people management.
Skills
Strong commercial knowledge and expertise in sales intermediaries and business development.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
Analytical and financial acumen; ability to assess commercial potential and strategic fit.
Project management and organizational skills for managing multiple deals and stakeholders.

Fluent in written and spoken English.
