Pfizer Austria Colleague Encourages 'Safer Surfing'
Philip Poeschl, a Medical Quality and
Compliance Manager from Pfizer Austria.
When it comes to using the Internet at home, there is no safer surfing advocate than Philip Poeschl, a Medical Quality and Compliance Manager from Pfizer Austria.
Poeschl founded Safer Surfing, a nonprofit organization, to help parents and families address the inherent challenges of home Internet access and to protect children from questionable online content.
The organization runs seminars and sets up websites to teach parents how to recognize the warning signs of Internet abuse. The Safer Surfing website receives more than 44,000 views a month and extends into Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, Poland and Spain.
The organization's impact has not gone unnoticed by the media and the Austrian government. Poeschl was recently invited by the vice chancellor of Austria to present the organization's work. As a result of this meeting, Safer Surfing will begin working with the Ministry for Family Affairs to support teacher education around Internet safety in 2012.
"It is hard work to start up and lead this nonprofit charitable organization and work at Pfizer, but it is well worth it," Poeschl said. "I thank Pfizer for recognizing our [Safer Surfing team] efforts and having a view on social responsibility."
