Patients are the focus of everything we do. From the earliest stage of drug development to the final approval and use of our medicines and vaccines, our purpose is breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. We work with, and for, patients, advocates, and caregivers to meet the evolving needs of patients everywhere.

Colleagues across Pfizer collaborate with patients and patient advocates to develop breakthrough treatments and innovative approaches to help address patient challenges. These partnerships have helped to increase patient engagement in research and development, diversify clinical trials, develop patient-friendly educational materials and patient support programs, and elevate priority policy and social impact issues.

The Global Patient Advocacy Team leads the enterprise-wide strategy to partner with patient advocacy groups. Together, we drive the focus and outcomes of our innovations and to create and nurture sustainable partnerships that measurably improve patient outcomes. With a patient engagement lead based in every region, our team works with all patients and advocates regardless of geography, disease focus or economic status. We are proud to have been ranked No. 1 by thousands of global patient groups on PatientView’s Corporate Reputation of Pharma 2021 survey, and we will continue to incorporate feedback and insights on how we can do better for patients together.

Here are just a few ways we are living our commitment to putting patients first:

To provide a holistic approach to patient care, Pfizer aims to continuously listen, learn, collaborate, and address areas of unmet patient needs. In 2021, Pfizer colleagues engaged with hundreds of patient advocacy groups across North America, Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia to advance shared goals. These groups, promoting the needs and priorities of local patient communities, represent a wide variety of disease types and focus areas and include policy advocates, aging support, caregiver networks, non-profits, and multi-cultural organizations. These partnerships are of critical importance to Pfizer’s mission and help ensure our ongoing activities — such as research and development, clinical trial design, manufacturing, and information for patients — reflect patient’s priorities.

Our work is not just about a responsibility to our communities, but rather it reflects the enduring belief that better health is possible for everyone, everywhere. As such, our commitment extends to partnering with other stakeholders to provide access programs and services, innovative technologies educational materials, and more to support the patient journey. We apply our science, medicines and vaccines, support, and the expertise of our people to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Together with our partners and with global health institutions, we are improving healthcare access for underserved people in the U.S. and around the world, creating lasting social impact.

At Pfizer, we work hard to deliver breakthroughs while ensuring patients have all the information they need to have full confidence in their medicines and vaccines. Our teams strive to communicate known product information and instructions and to ensure clinical trial outcomes and data is balanced, accessible, timely, and useful. Pfizer is working in several different areas to make health information easier to understand, including developing plain language summaries of research findings. We also partner with external organizations to evaluate our language around health topics to improve phrasing so that health information is easier to understand.
