ROLE SUMMARY
The GSC Market Logistics individual contributor is operationally accountable for Market Logistics activities in the Irish market leading and directing team members in each of those. The incumbent coordinates material movement between dock, warehouse and first paying customer locations with the goal of creating superior customer experience in a financially viable operation in pursuit of our purpose. The GSC Market Logistics role performs activities in planning & controlling the efficient flow of product, materials, or services from the point of in-country arrival through supply chain endpoint, meeting customer requirements. Accountable that product arrives within acceptable parameters, ensuring that time objectives are achieved within existing financial constraints to meet associated targets and goals of both GSC and business partners. Accountable for the execution and continuous improvement of standard Market Logistics processes & systems, building relationships with strategic customers and partners through Market Logistics initiatives in support of vision, purpose, and goals.
Logistics Operation
- Coordinate with various teams to ensure efficient scheduling, procurement, and movement of finished products and samples, managing storage and delivery to customer locations.
- Oversee import and export compliance, process free trade agreements accurately, and maximize financial returns within local and global constraints.
Transportation and Distribution:
- Formulate and implement strategies for efficient goods distribution across channels, including e-commerce and wholesale.
- Manage transportation by selecting carriers, optimizing routes, and overseeing freight costs for timely deliveries.
- Work with logistics partners to ensure smooth operations and adherence to regulations, and coordinate with internal teams for compliant shipments.
- Regularly evaluate trade channel performance, adjust for growth and customer satisfaction, and ensure timely compliance with serialization mandates.
LSP (Logistics Service Provider) Management:
- Collaborate with and manage LSPs, including freight forwarders, 3PLs, and carriers, to align with business needs.
- Evaluate and select LSPs based on capability, performance, and cost, and negotiate contracts to meet business and performance goals.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, business review, and audits, manage shipping activities and invoices, and ensure compliance with Environment Health & Safety, Compliance, GDP, GMP, and any other legal standards.
- Ensure On-Time Ship, On-Time Delivery (manage obstacles), Costs are in line with budget, Continuous Improvement programs.
- LSP responsibilities for business continuity, controlled substances, dangerous goods & Environment Health & Safety; supported by Pfizer subject matter experts.
- Support the Logistics & Supply Market Leader for all the “mission critical” areas of market transformation for a robust performance of a logistics network.
Logistics Budget Management:
- Manage the logistics budget to align with business goals, control costs, and identify savings.
- Collaborate with finance and other teams to forecast logistics expenses and monitor profitability KPIs.
- Calculate total cost of ownership for products, considering all logistics expenses.
- Implement cost control measures and optimize supply chain profitability, balancing savings with customer satisfaction and quality.
Inventory Management:
- Preform daily inventory reconciliation between LSP and market systems.
- Develop inventory strategies to optimize stock levels, minimize costs, and prevent stockouts.
- Work with demand planners and procurement for accurate forecasting and efficient replenishment.
- Collaborate with Demand Planning and Market Planning Hub for effective inbound supply processing.
- Manage inventory removal and material destruction in compliance with local regulations and Pfizer policy.
Optimization of Storage:
- Analyze and enhance storage and warehouse operations by adopting lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives for optimal space use, inventory accuracy, and efficiency.
- Regularly assess storage capacity and layout, reconfigure for improved space use, and adopt automation technologies.
- Implement inventory management strategies like ABC analysis for efficient item placement and handling.
- Use WMS and tracking technologies for precise inventory monitoring, and collaborate with teams for aligned forecasting and minimized excess inventory.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Develop CRM strategies to foster strong customer relationships, using CRM systems to analyze data for personalized communication and targeted marketing.
- Segment customers to tailor offerings, engage proactively through various channels to resolve issues and gather feedback.
- Implement loyalty programs to encourage repeat business and collaborate with sales and marketing for aligned customer strategies.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and loyalty metrics like Net Promoter Score (NPS) to drive improvements and customer-centric initiatives.
Asset Management
- Oversee inventory management, ensuring compliance with regulations, conducting audits, and managing write-offs and destruction processes.
- Optimize electronic asset management through data management in systems like SAP ECC, WMS, IBP, SHARK/PfISH, and SupplyIQ.
- Trade Management
Financial
- Responsible for developing and achieving operating budgets, implementing cost improvement projects, and maintaining efficiency in Market Logistics operations.
- Deliver project objectives on time using structured project management for various initiatives, including capability projects, product launches, and mergers.
- Conduct activity/cost analysis, partner with vendors and PGS teams to drive total cost improvements.
Sustainability in Logistics:
- Implement sustainability initiatives in logistics, focusing on eco-friendly transportation, packaging and energy efficiency.
- Develop sustainable strategies with teams to optimize routes and use renewable energy, aiming to reduce carbon emissions.
- Track and improve key sustainability metrics like carbon footprint, waste reduction, and energy consumption.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the calculation tools and software used to measure in-market emissions from Transportation and Distribution.
- Stay updated on sustainability trends and regulations, and promote environmental responsibility in the supply chain.
Operational Excellence
- Maintain and refresh standard work processes using the Atlas framework as PCT Lead, and systematically enhance process capabilities and organizational design with the GSC IMEx Eco System framework.
- Apply an Operational Excellence (IMEx) mindset, tools, and concepts to improve capabilities and cost efficiency in partnership with logistics service providers, forwarders, brokers, and internal business/process partners.
Value beyond supply
- Encourage a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, forming cross-functional teams to explore new technologies and ideas.
- Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and maintain a competitive edge. Regularly assess the impact of innovation initiatives, sharing successes and insights across the organization.
- Use advanced analytics and AI to identify automation and cost reduction opportunities, and implement innovative solutions for operational efficiency.
- Bring logistics expertise to support distribution model changes, closely align with sales and marketing to meet customer needs, and offer value-added services.
- Support Business Units' future strategies and initiatives and lead logistics in trade and distribution strategy formulation and execution, engage resources for market models, and collaborate with providers for capability solutions.
Compliance
- Ensure Logistics Operations is compliant with - Goods Distribution Practice (GDP) regulations, Pfizer’s Supply Chain Quality Agreement(s) for Logistics Service Providers, Pfizer minimum standards of care (EH&S, BCP, DG, Controlled, Global Security), FMD/Serialization mandate, Global Trade compliance, FCPA guidelines, and all applicable Global and Local policies and regulations - to maintain the quality and integrity of the distribution supply chain.
Technical skills
- BS/BA Degree required. Preferably in the fields of Supply Chain, Logistics Management, Industrial Engineering or alike
- Role/Market Specific: 4 + years of relevant experience in Supply Chain, Planning
- Experience leading business review with external partners
- Experience leading cross-functional team projects
- Demonstrated business acumen, industry, and product knowledge; including trends, competitive landscape and industry best practices which can impact the business
- Operational Excellence experience
- Experience in Pharma industry considered an asset
- CPIM or CSCP certification by APICS is preferred
- Project Management

- Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Ability to interpret/ analyze data, draw meaningful conclusions and influence key stakeholders by presenting comprehensive solutions and recommendations.
