Position Summary
We are seeking a senior enterprise executive and strategic architect to join our team as Vice President, Obesity Strategy, reporting directly to the Obesity Franchise Development Head and operating as a core member of the obesity franchise senior leadership team. This role will serve as the enterprise‑wide executive accountable for leading the development and execution of Pfizer’s global obesity strategy across all key geographies, including the U.S. and China.
The Vice President will hold end‑to‑end strategic and financial ownership for the obesity franchise, setting long‑term direction, defining strategic choices, and driving enterprise‑level alignment and decisive execution across R&D, Commercial, Medical, Development, Finance, and other critical functions. The ideal candidate will bring recognized executive leadership credibility, a deep command of the evolving obesity ecosystem, and the organizational authority and influence required to shape portfolio strategy, capital allocation, and long‑term enterprise value creation.
This role requires a seasoned executive leader who can operate with autonomy at the most senior levels of Pfizer, seamlessly integrate scientific rigor with commercial and financial strategy, own and drive high‑stakes enterprise decisions in a complex global matrix, and represent the obesity franchise internally and externally as a thought leader and strategic voice.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Ownership:
• Define and own the long‑term, enterprise obesity strategy, establishing the strategic ambition, success metrics, and roadmap to deliver sustained scientific leadership, competitive differentiation, and franchise growth.
Enterprise Decision Making & Executive Alignment:
• Serve as the primary executive decision owner for obesity‑related strategic choices across the enterprise. Lead and chair, as appropriate, senior‑level governance, prioritization, and investment forums, driving alignment across R&D, Commercial, Medical, and Development. Act as a trusted strategic advisor to the Obesity Franchise Development Head and Pfizer senior leadership on high‑impact decisions.
Portfolio Strategy, Capital Allocation & Financial Accountability:
• Own portfolio‑level trade‑offs and capital allocation decisions, shaping investment strategy across the obesity pipeline and lifecycle. Drive enterprise financial accountability, scenario planning, and value maximization, with clear linkage between scientific strategy, commercial outcomes, and shareholder value.
Enterprise Thought Leadership & External Representation:
• Serve as Pfizer’s executive authority on obesity strategy, delivering forward‑looking insights on scientific innovation, competitive dynamics, payer and policy evolution, and market outlook. Represent the franchise with external stakeholders as appropriate, including scientific leaders, key partners, and industry forums.
Scientific & Innovation Leadership:
• Set the scientific and innovation agenda for obesity in partnership with R&D leadership, ensuring alignment between emerging biology, translational opportunities, and portfolio strategy. Provide executive‑level guidance on risk‑taking, innovation priorities, and platform evolution.
Global, Matrix & Executive Leadership:
• Lead with enterprise mindset and executive authority in a highly matrixed global organization, holding senior leaders accountable for outcomes rather than consensus alone. Build and sustain senior‑level coalitions, influence across reporting lines, and drive outcomes even in the absence of direct people management authority.
Qualifications
Educational Background:
• MD/PhD or PhD with deep domain expertise in obesity, endocrinology, or related metabolic diseases.
Industry & Executive Experience:
• 12–15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including senior leadership roles with enterprise‑level accountability in a large, complex global organization.
Strategic & Operating Experience:
• Proven experience shaping and leading global franchise or portfolio strategy, including investment prioritization, lifecycle planning, and cross‑functional execution.
• Prior experience with a top‑tier management consulting firm or equivalent enterprise strategy leadership experience highly desirable.
Therapeutic Area Expertise:
• Recognized expertise in the obesity and metabolic disease landscape, spanning scientific innovation, clinical development, commercial strategy, and evolving healthcare economics.
Executive Leadership & Influence:
• Demonstrated ability to influence and drive decisions at the Executive Leadership Team level, lead enterprise initiatives with material financial impact, and operate effectively in high‑ambiguity, high‑stakes environments.
Desired Executive Capabilities
Enterprise Strategy & Systems Thinking:
• Ability to architect and lead long‑term, enterprise strategies that integrate science, business, and financial value creation.
Executive Presence & Influence:
• Strong executive presence, judgment, and credibility, with the ability to challenge, align, and influence the most senior leaders across Pfizer.
Decisive Matrix Leadership:
• Comfort driving clear decisions and accountability in a complex, global matrix, balancing collaboration with decisive leadership.
Adaptability & Strategic Agility:
• Ability to anticipate shifts in science, market dynamics, and policy, recalibrating strategy proactively to sustain long‑term franchise leadership.

Research and Development
Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives
Research confirms what intuition tells us: that purpose-driven companies perform better, are more innovative, attract and retain the best people, and know how to unleash the power of those people. Pfizer’s purpose—Breakthroughs that change patients' lives—fuels everything we do and reflects our passion for building on our legacy as one of the greatest contributors of good to the world.
Each word in our purpose has meaning and reflects the value we strive to bring to patients and society:
“Breakthroughs” - These are the innovations, scientific and commercial, that we seek to deliver every day. All colleagues, regardless of role, level or location, strive for breakthroughs every day.
“Change” - We want to do more than simply improve patients’ medical conditions; we want to dramatically change their lives for the better.
“Patients’ lives” - We consider not only patients, but everyone they touch—including their families, caregivers, and friends—and everything they love to do. It’s an intentionally holistic view.
Our purpose ensures that patients remain at the center of all we do. We live our purpose by sourcing the best science in the world; partnering with others in the healthcare system to improve access to our medicines; using digital technologies to enhance our drug discovery and development, as well as patient outcomes; and leading the conversation to advocate for pro-innovation/pro-patient policies.
Every decision we make and every action we take is done with the patient in mind—and to nurture an environment where breakthroughs can thrive.
Our Values
To fully realize Pfizer’s purpose, we have established a clear set of expectations regarding “what” we need to achieve for patients and “how” we will go about achieving those goals.
The “how” is represented by four simple, powerful values—courage, excellence, equity, and joy—that define our company and our culture.
Courage: Breakthroughs start by challenging convention, especially in the face of uncertainty or adversity. This happens when we think big, speak up, and are decisive.
Excellence: We can only change patients’ lives when we perform at our best together. This happens when we focus on what matters, agree who does what, and measure our outcomes.
Equity: We believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for. This happens when we are inclusive, act with integrity, and reduce healthcare disparities.
Joy: We give ourselves to our work, but it also gives to us. We find joy when we take pride, recognize one another, and have fun.
