Technology moves fast, and there’s no better example than the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI).

Here at Pfizer, we have long been focused on making breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. As new technology like AI emerges that can help us pursue our goals, we are committed to learning how best to apply AI to help make those breakthroughs even more quickly and efficiently.

CEO Albert Bourla is leading the way with his vision for the future of Pfizer. His goal is to leverage AI across all corners of the company and for Pfizer become the most AI-forward organization in our industry.

“AI will fundamentally improve how we discover medicines, how we develop and manufacture them and how quickly we reach patients. Very few technologies can change every corner of a business in this way,” Bourla said.”

Every corner of the business. That means incorporating AI into functions across all of Pfizer, from the laboratory research that has driven discovery for nearly two centuries to the manufacturing work that powers the supply chain and helps get our medicines wherever it’s needed. This exciting new technology will enhance our individual capability while simultaneously elevating the whole organization's potential.

At Pfizer, we believe the value of AI tools is determined by people knowing how to use them. We’re dedicated to ensuring that there is a human element at every stage of AI’s involvement, whether in research, drug development, or clinical trials. No machine can replicate human ingenuity, judgment, or skills.

Which is why we launched the AI fluency program, an AI certification program tailored to every role and function across the company, worldwide. The best way to ensure that AI is working for us is to learn more about it: how it works, what it can do, and what we can do with it.

Four months later, 98% of eligible colleagues have already taken the first course. The program is helping Pfizer colleagues better understand AI and its capabilities, and every day we are getting more and more confident exploring the ways it can enhance and improve day-to-day work, from brainstorming to scientific breakthroughs.
