ROLE SUMMARY
Pfizer’s Strategy & Consulting (S&C) team works with Pfizer senior leadership to lead the development of holistic business strategies across Corporate, Commercial and Research & Development (R&D). As a team that works across the enterprise, we bring strategic connections and make a difference by combining robust consulting approaches with our intimate understanding of Pfizer’s business challenges. We collaborate closely with our internal business partners to develop shared goals and high impact strategies that enable Pfizer’s purpose-driven growth agenda and support our mission to deliver breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.
This role is dedicated to the U.S. Commercial “vertical”. This vertical focuses on Pfizer’s U.S. commercial efforts spanning Pfizer’s Primary Care, Specialty Care and Oncology Business Units (BUs). These BUs are responsible for executing the U.S. Commercial strategy across TAs/products and are accountable for the U.S. P&L for these businesses. Our main stakeholders include the Chief U.S. Commercial Officer, the U.S. BU Presidents and their leadership teams. Our projects define, shape, develop, and enable execution of strategies to advance and grow these businesses in support of Pfizer’s overall growth ambitions. Centered on projects related to key issues, business priorities, and products, and providing insights into the market and competitive dynamics that could impact business performance or strategic direction.
While this position reports into the Strategy & Consulting team organizationally, this person will partner closely with the Primary Care leadership teams in order to stay connected to key business challenges and opportunities, and ensure that there is alignment with strategic priorities, or adjust priorities when necessary.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Senior Director, reporting to the VP, Strategy & Consulting U.S. Commercial, your main accountabilities will be:
Working with the leaders of the Biopharma commercial organization to shape, develop, and enable execution of strategies that will advance and grow the business,
Significantly contributing to BU strategic planning, including providing insight and assessment of market signals that could impact business performance or strategic direction, and
Management of projects related to key strategic issues, including managing a team of strategy colleagues who will support these projects.
The Senior Director will also lead and manage 2-4 direct reports within Strategy & Consulting.
What this looks like on a daily basis:
Partner with Primary Care U.S. Commercial leads and/or corporate functions to develop business strategies at a global, and where appropriate, a local level. Identify key strategic imperatives and capabilities required to achieve these imperatives.
Contribute to the completion of an annual strategic plan, as well as a strategy action plan that manages the execution of the strategies.
Lead or direct a portfolio of projects that provide insight and direction for key strategic levers such as market development, customer needs assessment, competitive advantage, market and/or product prioritization, and opportunities at the BU, asset, or functional level. Provide day-to-day oversight to project teams of colleagues with varying levels of experience.
Develop a deep expertise in market dynamics to identify market trends and appropriately assess opportunities and guide strategic direction.
Develop external relationships that provide perspective of the diverse ecosystem outside of Pfizer as it relates to the areas of the business you support.
Develop strong internal relationships with senior leaders, serving as a trusted though partner, provide perspective of the diverse eco-system outside of Pfizer as it relates to the questions your senior business partners are attempting to solve.
Actively participate in the shaping the direction of the Strategy & Consulting team, supporting Pfizer strategy through the perspective and experience of the organizations you support, and collaborate to identify opportunities across commercial categories for alignment or best-practice sharing.
Advise a team of colleagues on internal S&C initiatives that support team priorities. Serve on extended Leadership Team for S&C.
Create an engaging and productive work environment where team members are encouraged to collaborate and excel, actively coaching junior team members and direct reports.
Lead and manage 2-4 direct reports, coaching and developing them to build capabilities and deliver exceptional performance.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
MBA/MS and10+ years of relevant healthcare experience.
Relevant healthcare experience includes experience working in/with commercial, corporate or R&D biopharma functions involving strategy development and/or strategic initiatives (e.g., marketing, commercial development, market access & pricing, business development, R&D strategy / portfolio management, etc.)
Demonstrated strong strategic thinking skills, is trusted to drive sensitive and highly complex projects. Provides guidance across multiple projects and business needs.
Demonstrated project leadership, managing multiple projects and large teams of cross-functional colleagues with varying backgrounds and skillsets.
Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization without direct authority (global TA / BU leaders, functional leads, ELT, etc). Must be able to influence executive leaders across the organization
Ability to understand and translate market and competitive dynamics into strategic implications.
Understands trends and market dynamics in global healthcare and biopharmaceuticals, aware of competitor strategies, payer and patient access dynamics, and understands the drug development process.
Demonstrated ability and experience in overseeing the day-to-day work of junior resources, including providing coaching, mentorship, and development.
Advanced understanding of finance and P&L implications of any strategy.
Ability to work with complex information and distill into a framework that helps facilitate decision making.
Ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and lead with indirect authority.
Excellent presentation skills sufficient to address Executive Leadership teams and external audiences.
Strong command of English language, spoken and written.
NICE-TO-HAVES:
5+ years of biopharmaceutical consulting experience, and people management experience strongly preferred.
U.S. Commercial Vaccines and Cardiometabolic experience preferred but not essential.
Additional Location Information: Our roles require a high level of collaboration and are subject to Pfizer's flexible hybrid policy of 2- 3 days per week working from our NYC-based global headquarters.
