ROLE SUMMARY
As Senior Manager, Developer Experience (DX) & Community Enablement Engineer (Individual Contributor), you will be the developer-first advocate for our pip-installable AI Capabilities SDK. Your mission is to make the SDK intuitive, discoverable, and delightful to use, while enabling a thriving internal and external contribution ecosystem. You will design DX standards, build quickstarts, sample apps, and scaffolding tools, and lead community enablement programs that accelerate adoption and reduce friction.
You will collaborate closely with:
Embedded AI Architecture and Solution Design Teams to ensure SDK ergonomics align with real-world solution patterns.
AI Engineering for PI increments and integration of external technologies.
Digital Creation Centers and Forward Impact Teams (FITs) as primary consumers, capturing feedback to improve usability.
Technical Writers, DevOps, and Evaluation & QA Engineers to ensure documentation, pipelines, and quality gates support a seamless developer experience.
Why this Role Matters
Even the most powerful SDK fails without great developer experience. This role ensures our AI capabilities are easy to adopt, extend, and contribute to, reducing bespoke engineering and accelerating time-to-first-success across the enterprise. By combining DX engineering with community enablement, you create a multiplier effect for innovation and reuse.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Developer Experience Architecture
Define DX standards for SDK ergonomics: API clarity, naming conventions, error models, configuration patterns, and backward compatibility.
Build quickstarts, sample apps, and notebooks for common AI patterns (RAG pipelines, agent workflows, tool integration).
Develop cookiecutters/CLI scaffolds that prewire tests, telemetry, and guardrails for new modules or contributions.
2) Documentation & Discoverability
Collaborate with Technical Writers to produce developer-focused guides, tutorials, and code recipes.
Ensure API docs are complete, searchable, and versioned; integrate doc generation into CI/CD pipelines.
Maintain pattern libraries and exemplars that show “when, why, and how” to use SDK components.
3) Community Enablement & Contribution Workflows
Design and maintain open-source-style contribution workflows: feature branches, PR checks, mandatory tests/docs, and review guidelines.
Build tooling and templates for contributors to extend SDK modules safely and consistently.
Run enablement programs (brown bags, office hours, pattern showcases) to onboard internal teams and external contributors.
4) Feedback Loops & Continuous Improvement
Capture DX feedback from Digital Creation Centers, FITs, and community contributors; prioritize improvements in APIs, docs, and tooling.
Partner with DevOps to streamline build/release ergonomics (artifact discoverability, changelogs, migration guides).
Collaborate with Evaluation & QA Engineers to surface evaluation results in developer-friendly formats (dashboards, diffs vs. baselines).
5) Advocacy & Evangelism
Act as the voice of the developer in design reviews; ensure APIs and workflows minimize friction and cognitive load.
Promote reuse and contribution culture across the enterprise; highlight exemplars and celebrate community impact.
Partner with AI Capability Architecture Lead to align DX priorities with capability roadmap and strategic goals.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
DX quality: Positive developer feedback; reduced onboarding time; faster time-to-first-success.
Adoption & reuse: Increased SDK usage across products; higher contribution rates from internal teams and community.
Documentation completeness: API docs and guides consistently meet standards; discoverability improved.
Contribution workflow efficiency: PR cycle times reduced; compliance with tests/docs near 100%.
Community engagement: Active participation in enablement programs; measurable impact on SDK evolution.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications
7+ years in software engineering or developer experience roles, with strong focus on SDK/API usability and enablement.
Proficiency in Python and experience building developer-facing libraries (packaging, semantic versioning, backward compatibility).
Hands-on experience with DX tooling (cookiecutters, CLI scaffolds, doc generators like Sphinx or MkDocs).
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, contribution workflows, and automated doc/test integration.
Excellent communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with GenAI/LLM ecosystems (RAG, agent frameworks, MCP adaptors) and their developer integration patterns.
Familiarity in designing and implementing Developer Experience (DX) evaluation frameworks
Experience running developer enablement programs and managing community contribution workflows.
Background in open-source practices and multi-language SDK delivery (Python primary; TypeScript/Java nice-to-have).
Exposure to observability and security-by-design principles for developer-facing libraries.
Comfortable collaborating across architecture, QA, DevOps, DX, platform, and product teams in matrixed organizations.

Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives
Research confirms what intuition tells us: that purpose-driven companies perform better, are more innovative, attract and retain the best people, and know how to unleash the power of those people. Pfizer’s purpose—Breakthroughs that change patients' lives—fuels everything we do and reflects our passion for building on our legacy as one of the greatest contributors of good to the world.
Each word in our purpose has meaning and reflects the value we strive to bring to patients and society:
“Breakthroughs” - These are the innovations, scientific and commercial, that we seek to deliver every day. All colleagues, regardless of role, level or location, strive for breakthroughs every day.
“Change” - We want to do more than simply improve patients’ medical conditions; we want to dramatically change their lives for the better.
“Patients’ lives” - We consider not only patients, but everyone they touch—including their families, caregivers, and friends—and everything they love to do. It’s an intentionally holistic view.
Our purpose ensures that patients remain at the center of all we do. We live our purpose by sourcing the best science in the world; partnering with others in the healthcare system to improve access to our medicines; using digital technologies to enhance our drug discovery and development, as well as patient outcomes; and leading the conversation to advocate for pro-innovation/pro-patient policies.
Every decision we make and every action we take is done with the patient in mind—and to nurture an environment where breakthroughs can thrive.
Our Values
To fully realize Pfizer’s purpose, we have established a clear set of expectations regarding “what” we need to achieve for patients and “how” we will go about achieving those goals.
The “how” is represented by four simple, powerful values—courage, excellence, equity, and joy—that define our company and our culture.
Courage: Breakthroughs start by challenging convention, especially in the face of uncertainty or adversity. This happens when we think big, speak up, and are decisive.
Excellence: We can only change patients’ lives when we perform at our best together. This happens when we focus on what matters, agree who does what, and measure our outcomes.
Equity: We believe that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for. This happens when we are inclusive, act with integrity, and reduce healthcare disparities.
Joy: We give ourselves to our work, but it also gives to us. We find joy when we take pride, recognize one another, and have fun.
