What You Will Achieve
We are seeking a China Platform Engineer who will be responsible for managing all engineering activities for platform technologies, including databases (SQL Server, open-source DBs, etc.) and mid-tier services (.NET, IIS, middleware platforms) in Dalian, China. This role requires strong hands-on engineering experience, ensuring platform deployments are compliant with China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) while also aligning with global engineering standards and lifecycle processes.
The Platform Engineer will collaborate with global platform engineering teams, local application teams, security & compliance leads, and operations teams to deliver secure, compliant, and reliable platform services that support business operations in China.
Key Responsibilities
1. Platform Engineering & Delivery
Follow Global Standards with respect to Design, implement, and manage databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, open-source DBs). This primarily includes AWS RDS databases like Aurora MySQL, Aurora PostgreSQL, Oracle SE2.
Deploy and manage mid-tier services including .NET, IIS, middleware platforms.
Ensure platforms are resilient, scalable, and aligned with business/application requirements.
Work closely with Global team on automation for provisioning, patching, monitoring, and scaling of platforms.
2. Compliance & Security
Ensure all platform engineering activities comply with PIPL, DSL, CSL.
Collaborate with Security & Compliance leads to enforce encryption, access control, and audit logging.
Maintain platform documentation for audit readiness.
3. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work with local application teams to understand new platform requirements.
Align with global engineering teams to introduce new database and middleware capabilities in China.
Collaborate with operations teams to ensure smooth handover and support readiness.
4. Lifecycle & Standards
Ensure all databases and middleware platforms follow global lifecycle policies (patching, upgrades, refresh).
Standardize builds and configurations to align with global reference architectures.
Monitor performance, capacity, and costs for platforms.
5. Continuous Improvement
Recommend and implement new platform technologies in line with global strategy.
Drive improvements in automation, monitoring, and performance optimization.
Share lessons learned and engineering best practices with global teams.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Experience:
5–8 years in platform engineering, database management, or middleware technologies.
Hands-on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other open-source DBs.
Experience managing .NET, IIS, middleware services.
Familiarity with DevOps/automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines).
Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of China PIPL, DSL, CSL.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and hands-on engineering skills.
Fluent in Mandarin & English.
Ability to collaborate effectively with global and local teams.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
% of platform deployments compliant with PIPL and global standards.
SLA/OLA adherence for platform availability and performance.
Timely delivery of new database/middleware solutions.
Zero major audit/compliance findings on platform services.
Improved efficiency via automation and performance tuning.
