Now, more than 175 years later, Pfizer is a global leader in manufacturing medicines and vaccines. Our PGS team is focused on ensuring that all products are made to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficacy throughout our network of facilities. 

How Pfizer’s U.S. Manufacturing Works

At Pfizer, we pursue scientific breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. But none of those breakthroughs reach the people who need them without Pfizer Global Supply (PGS). Our high-tech and resilient pharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain combined with the of our dedicated PGS colleagues makes it possible for Pfizer to deliver medicines and vaccines to patients where and when they need them.

How Does Pfizer Manufacture Medicines?

  • Sourcing and qualifying the components used in manufacturing the drug substance or drug product.

  • Creating the core biological or chemical ingredients that make the medicine work.

  • Combining the API with excipients (inactive ingredients) to create the final medicinal form (e.g., liquid, tablet, or capsule).

  • Safely and precisely filling the formulated medicine into its final delivery format (e.g. vials, syringes, or blister packs).

  • Securing the products in protective packaging with accurate, localized labeling and anti-counterfeit serialization.

  • Utilizing advanced logistics to route products safely to customers.

  • Rigorous testing, monitoring, and compliance oversight are conducted at every single stage of this process.

The 70-acre site in Andover combines state-of-the-art research and development facilities with flexible, multi-product manufacturing capabilities.

PGS Franklin, OH
PGS Franklin, OH

In Franklin, our 48,000-square-foot facility manufactures heparin active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).

PGS Kalamazoo, MI
PGS Kalamazoo, MI

The 1,300 acre facility located in Kalamazoo, Michigan manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and drug product (DP).

PGS McPherson, KS
PGS McPherson, KS

The McPherson site specializes in manufacturing sterile injectable medicines used daily in hospitals around the world.

PGS Middleton, WI
PGS Middleton, WI

Since 1982, the Middleton site has focused on the manufacture of biologics. The 83,000-square-foot facility isolates bovine thrombin, a naturally occurring enzyme which plays a critical role in rapid clotting (hemostasis) of blood.

North Creek, WA
PGS North Creek, WA

The North Creek site, integrated into Pfizer’s network following the Seagen acquisition, produces antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) and antibody intermediates.

PGS Pearl River, NY

With more than 100 years of rich history in innovation and manufacturing excellence, 19 products- including various vaccines, antibiotics, and oncology medicines, have been discovered, developed, and approved at the Pearl River, New York site.

In Rochester, Michigan, the site manufactures and packages penicillin, the only approved treatment for late stage syphilis.
