Pfizer Gets UnCensored About Ulcerative Colitis with Sunny Anderson
Since 2023, cooking show host and television personality Sunny Anderson has been a valued partner for Pfizer. That year, as part of our ongoing efforts to fight ulcerative colitis and improve the lives of those living with the condition, we launched the ‘This is Living with UC’ campaign. ‘This is Living with UC’ was created to provide information and resources for people suffering from this most common form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which affects an estimated 1.25 million people in the U.S.i
Anyone can be diagnosed with UC, no matter their age, race, ethnicity, or culture. However, managing the condition can sometimes bring unique challenges for people from diverse communities in accessing resources and medical support.ii

Sunny, who has been living with UC for over 30 years, is no stranger to balancing the challenges of UC alongside her successful career. And while she has learned how to open up to friends and family about how the condition affects her daily life, she recognizes that it can be incredibly difficult for others to do so, especially for those from diverse backgrounds.
That's why she has teamed up with Pfizer once again to create 'UC UnCensored', a series of conversation cards designed to help spark open and honest dialogue about living with UC. The cards cover a wide range of topics related to living with the condition, from navigating social scenarios, advocating for yourself in the care journey, approaching shared meals, and more. By providing prompts to help start the conversation, Sunny hopes to empower more people to have open and honest discussions about living with UC.

"When I started sharing my own journey with UC, I was amazed by how many people reached out to me, eager to connect and share their stories. I have never seen people so happy to hear I have a disease in my life!" said Sunny Anderson. "That's why I think it's so important that we continue to break down the stigma about UC by sharing the realities of the condition and talking about what we face on a daily basis. I hope that the UC UnCensored conversation cards can help foster a sense of community and support between patients and their loved ones."
Recently, Sunny invited members from the wider patient and advocacy community to join her in person to use the cards for themselves and to share more about their personal experiences with UC. The group engaged in thoughtful discussions, offering each other support and validation as they explored challenges and tips for navigating life with this chronic condition.
